ABOUT ME

Hello, My name is Kitty and I have been passionate about animals ever since I can remember. I have dedicated my life to learning about animals and trying to improve their lives by being an animal welfare advocate and providing the highest standard of care and well being.

I attended Hadlow College and completed my National Diploma in Animal Management Care. I then began my professional career as a Kennel and Rehoming Assistant for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. This was a fantastic Job, as I got to work with dogs and cats, build a bond with them and learned so much about their behaviour. I was able to foster many dogs in this time to help understand what the dog needed and what home would be best for them.

I then began work as a Veterinary Care Assistant at the RSPCA Hospital in Putney. This was also a great job as I started to learn about the health and medical aspects of caring for animals. Here I got to work with a wide variety of animals from Dogs and Cats, to Small Furries, Exotics and Wildlife such as Foxes, Badgers, Hedgehogs and Wild Birds. This gave me the opportunity to complete my National Diploma in Veterinary Nursing and I am now a Registered Veterinary Nurse. I then began working as a Veterinary Nurse Team Leader at the PDSA. This has taught me great skills on managing a team and the ins and outs of running a hospital. During my professional career I have also volunteered for Second Chance Animal Rescue and the Cinnamon Trust in my free time.

I have always had a very keen interest in dog behaviour and training, and have started studying to become a Qualified Dog Trainer with the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT), I am hoping to have this completed by the end of the year and cant wait to share my knowledge with Dog Owners and help with any challenges they are facing using positive reinforcement techniques, helping to build on existing relationships with their Dog and making Dog training fun for owners and their Dogs.

Since working at Battersea Dogs and Cats home I have always wanted to start dog walking so I took a leap of faith and started Milly's Muddy Mutts. I couldn't really name my dog walking company after myself so I've named it after my beautiful rescue dog Milly. When I was working in my previous jobs, I found it hard to find a Animal care professional that ticked all the boxes, so I have created a service that reflects all the aspects I was looking for and I'm hoping I can share my knowledge with you.

Since starting Milly's Muddy Mutts I've really enjoyed getting to know every animal I've cared for and, and building a relationship with their guardians. The best part is seeing happy faces everyday!

As you can see Animals are my life, and everyday I learn something new. I will do everything I can to ensure your beloved companion is provided with fun, attention and care. Giving you peace of mind when you're unable to be there.

HAPPY CUSTOMERS

I would not hesitate to recommend Kitty to anyone. When I needed her help with Pixie, Kitty was amazing. Pixie fell in love with her and I felt completely at ease letting Kitty look after her, as I trusted she was in caring capable hands.

Kitty has been taking Gus and Ted for walks for some time now and they love it. They seem to know when she's on the way, before she gets to the front door. They come home suitably happy and exhausted. If you are looking for someone to entrust your dogs too, I highly recommend Kitty. If my two are happy then so am I.

We have used Millys Muddy Mutts dog walking and home visits for our puppy Labrador Cooper. We are really pleased, Kitty is extremely accommodating, flexible and friendly. Its great that she has veterinary experience, as we have lots of silly questions about our pup which she was able to help with too!

My cat Toffee is fussy with her food and frightened of anyone new. Not with kitty, she was purrrrrfect at taking care of Toffee while I was away. She is also very gentle and great at handling her for her nail clips. Now I am worried to tell everyone in case I cant book her again, thanks Kitty

My German Shepard Nala is a very anxious dog and only trusts a handful of people, I'm so lucky to have Kitty who has helped so much with Nala, not only do I trust Kitty with Nala 100% but she's also helped me with lots of advice when Nala has been unwell, she can also clip her nails, which is great as Nala would freak out in a Groomers.
I appreciate that Kitty will walk Nala on her own or alongside Dogs suited to Nalas needs. Thank you Kitty and Milly, I would 100% recommend their services.

FAQS

WHAT HAPPENS ON A TYPICAL WALK?

I will collect your dog, we then go to a fun dog walking location. Locations include Lesnes Abbey Woods, Bostall Woods, East Wickham Open Space, Danson Park, Hall Place and Oxleas Woods.  During the walk your dog will have time to run around and stretch their legs,  play sensory enriching games,  practise commands and learn new tricks using positive training techniques, play and socialise with other dogs if they want too and have some calm time towards the end of the walk, so they are ready to snooze for the rest of the day.  Your dog will then be dropped home. Once home I will ensure they have fresh clean water, are towel dried if needed, and are safely secure inside your home. I will only let your dog off lead with your consent, if they have reliable re-call and when I feel comfortable. I use long-lines while we build and bond and practise recall.
I sometimes use a car to transport the dogs around and they will always be wearing a harness and seatbelt.  I understand some dogs suffer with motion sickness so I am always considerate of their needs.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY WHILST WALKING AND MY DOG NEEDS TO GO TO THE VET, WILL YOU TAKE THEM?

I am a fully insured Dog Walker, as well as being a Registered Veterinary Nurse and able to provide First Aid. If your Animal needs immediate Veterinary assistance I will take them to the nearest Vet or Vet I am registered with. At the beginning of the trial period I ask for your Vets details and any medical related issues I need to be made aware of.

DO YOU HAVE ANY QUALIFICATIONS AND WHAT SAFETY CHECKS DO YOU HAVE IN PLACE?

I hold a National Diploma in Animal Management Care and a National Diploma in Veterinary Nursing. I have to complete a minimum of 15 hours a year of Continual Professional Development to stay enrolled on the Register of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. I am currently studying to become a Qualified Dog Trainer with Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT) and I hope to complete this by the end of the year. I have already completed the IMDT '2 Day Career as a Dog Trainer', 'Canine Body Language' and 'The Loose Lead Masterclass' which have given me valuable information, using positive reinforcement methods and techniques.
I am fully insured, have a full DBS check certificate, data protection certificate and I keep up to date with all the relevant Animal Welfare Legislation. I am also a member of the Professional Dog Walking Association.
I carry water for the dogs and a first aid kit with me at all times.

DOES MY DOG NEED TO BE VACCINATED AND NEUTERED?

I will only walk dogs that have been fully vaccinated or have relevant antibody tests, are microchipped as this is a legal requirement and are up to date with flea and worm treatments. Kennel Cough vaccinations are preferred, but there is a Kennel Cough procedure in place that can be discussed, should the issue arise.
Although I prefer dogs to be neutered as there are many medical benefits, I understand in some instances its not always appropriate for them to be neutered. I walk entire dogs and review as necessary. If you are looking for objective, tolerant and informed advice, in regards to neutering, please contact me. I have done lots of research in this field, and keep myself informed with accurate, up to date and peer reviewed information.

DO YOU USE YOUR OWN LEAD AND COLLAR?

Yes, I use a fabric lead and harness for every dog, these are checked everyday to ensure they are in good working condition. All dogs by law must have a collar with an I.D tag with Owners address and contact number on. I also attach an additional tag with my name and contact details on. I also use a tractive GPS collar.
If you have a special harness or lead that you want me to use, I can but I will never use aversive equipment such as choke, shock or prong collars.

WILL I BE UPDATED ON MY DOGS WALK?

Yes, I will keep all Owners up to date on their dog's walk with photos, if not at the end of the walk then by the end of the day.

CAT AND SMALL FURRY/EXOTIC VISITS

On your enquiry into home visits, I will visit you and your Pet for a free initial consultation. During this consultation we can discuss all yours and your pet's requirements for the visit, I can get to know your pet and any special requests you may have. I have experience caring for exotic species such as reptiles. I understand they have complex needs and will follow all instructions left by the owner.

WILL MY DOG BE WALKED IN EXTREME WEATHER?

I walk dogs come rain or shine, but there are certain conditions when it is unsafe to walk the dogs in my care. These include when it is icy/torrential rain or when it is too hot. During these weather conditions, your dog will still be cared for but it will be a 30 minute home visit instead of a walk. During this visit they will be taken for a toilet break and indoor/garden activities such as basic training/sensory enrichment, TLC or playing will be provided. I will contact Clients as early as possible to make them aware.

COVID-19 INFORMATION

I have completed a safe systems at work webinar and keep updated with the latest government guidelines. I wear gloves and a mask if requested when visiting homes/collecting and dropping Dogs.

MY DOG HAS BEHAVIOURAL ISSUES CAN YOU HELP?

I am not a qualified dog trainer/behaviour modifier, but I have over 13 years of experience working with a wide range of dog breeds and different behaviours. One person's definition of a behavioural issue is another person's definition of character. I have worked with and managed a lot of different behaviours and I don't shy away from dogs with additional needs. So if your dog is lead reactive, shy and sensitive, doesn't like other dogs but is happy to plod along, or has any other issues I am experienced enough to manage and work with dogs that need extra care and patience. I only use positive and force free training methods to help manage any behavioural issues. I only walk dogs on their own or with 1 other dog if appropriate, so their issue can be handled sensitively and hopefully be improved upon and not exacerbated which may happen if they were walked in a larger group. If you are looking for a Behaviourist or Trainer I can recommend some associates. I am currently studying to become a Qualified Dog Trainer with The Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT), using positive reinforcement methods and techniques and the modules I have studied so far have given me valuable information.
